Megan Thee Stallion is known for expressing with total clarity and little modesty what she thinks, in uncensored lyrics but with a lot of rhythm. After her collaboration with Dua Lipa, the Huston native has released this week the music video for her new song Plan B, a minimalist beat with which Megan Thee Stallion expresses more clearly the lyrics of her new song, and this format puts the voice of the artist before the musical rhythm.
Plan B has an audiovisual aesthetic by Casey Cadwallader and John Miserendino that puts Megan as the epicenter of everything, highlighted among several dark backgrounds and costumes. There is a symmetry between the lyrics of the song and the video clip, as the idea is that whoever listens to the song focuses on the lyrics and whoever watches the video clip focuses on Megan. It is a kind of symbolism in which Megan and the song are one, and the rhythmic and audiovisual components simply accompany them as co-protagonists of the performance.
The truth is that we had already heard the lyrics of Plan B before, and is that Megan Thee Stallion picked up the award for Best Female Rap Artist at the Billboard Music Awards 2022, gala in which she sang Plan B in addition to Sweetest Pie, the song she made in conjunction with Dua Lipa. The artist performed both songs after collecting her award, Sweetest Pie solo, as Dua Lipa did not attend the gala.
When she took the stage, the staging seemed to be a hint of the music video we can see now, and is that in the presentation Megan was the only person on the platform until a little later the dancers joined the brief set. Again, the epicenter of Plan B was Megan.
Plan B is a preview of Megan Thee Stallion‘s upcoming album, which the artist has revealed on her social media is practically finished. No word yet on when it will be released, but if the rest of the songs are anything like Plan B it’s time to get ready for what’s to come.
