If there was something we did not expect in this 2022 was a collaboration between Ed Sheeran and J Balvin. Two very different types of music and singers who have joined forces and voices to create a small EP of two songs. Sigue and Forever My Love are the great tracks with which the English and the Colombian surprised us last week.
Both have been friends for almost a year now and this has encouraged them to bring their good vibes to music. The story of Balvin and Sheeran began when they met by chance in a gym in New York in the summer of 2021. Many more were the encounters that we even saw Ed in a restaurant in Medellín with Balvin.
“Everything good takes time. Six months ago I was at the gym and I said: this man is similar to Ed Sheeran because that’s how it was, it was him. We had a coffee, we talked about life and we had a great vibe, we created a genuine friendship talking about everything from the simplest things to how to be a father hehe. In New York we agreed to meet one day in the studio and well, you’ll see what we did later…”, explained J Balvin in a publication launched through his Instagram.
The two songs have already surpassed one million views on YouTube. The artists stepped out of their comfort zone and chose to combine J Balvin’s urban and Spanish with Ed Sheeran’s ballads and English. This mix delighted the fans of both who have supported the songs from minute one. In Sigue we can hear Ed’s more reggaeton side where he shows us a perfect Spanish, while in Forever My Love we see José (J Balvin’s real name) in a calmer tone and interpreting a beautiful love ballad.
Both artists were in charge of the release of the songs, each one from their social media. In that statement, both artists refer to these two songs as “the first two songs we put together”, so this could be just a foretaste of more joint work to be released in the future.
Although the most critical people didn’t love this meeting, fans want to keep listening to this mix of rhythms and, above all, they want Ed Sheeran and J Balvin to continue forging their friendship and bringing a little piece of Colombia to England and vice versa.
