The Paris Fashion Week SS23 Menswear was catastrophic for Dior, but now is good. Travis Scott was the artist that Kim Jones selected to work with the brand for this collection due to his impact in the Gen Z and his personal style. This movement was risky because is a collaboration with a younger and inexperienced artist whom job is other than fashion.

At first, all was perfectly coordinated because Travis used this collection to promote his upcoming album Utopia for which he did a collab with McDonald’s and Fortnite as well. The album was one of the most anticipated works of the year and all of it went to trash when in the Astroworld Festival in Houston died various people during the performance of the artist, due to a bad management that the artist did with a lot of choices of the festival. This was an enormous stone in the career of Travis, because it opens the conversation of the responsibility and consciousness that an artist of this magnitude must have. The Dior collab that was supposed to come out just months after the tragedy, resulted in a undefined put off.

The Dior Men SS23 was inspired by all the aesthetic that Travis Scott managed to share with the creative director of the brand. It was an experience to reflect in the roots of the artist and in the environment where he grew up, just as Christian Dior did in his earliest work. Cactus were a recurrent theme since are the plants that are the most extended and common to see in Houston, the native city of the artist. But also drawings that are coming out from the mind of Travis Scott are feature in some of the prints too.

The show was an immersive experience in Texas, where your live is surround desert but you do the most to not let affect your way of styling. Talking about style, Travis is very recognizable in the industry because of it, his perception come from consuming a lot of fashion from Phoebe Philo to Virgil Abloh, so his taste is excellent, really. It was a very organic collaboration, because both creatives are interested in giving the best of them in the fashion world and for example the double Saddle bag created in this mix of ideas is a great example of it.
