This Sunday, February 27, the Screen Actors Guild of America (SAG) honored some of the most talented performers in the best TV shows and movies of 2022 from the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California.

The Screen Actors Guild Awards are the annual film awards given by the SAG to recognize the top performances by its members. Since its inception in 1995, these awards have become one of the main film events of the year in Hollywood.

Unlike other awards, the SAG Awards are particularly special for those in front of the camera, as it is the only ceremony voted on solely by the actors themselves. Award nominees are nominated by 4,200 members chosen at random from the more than 120,000 members of the Guild.

As for the awards, it can be said that the results of this edition have been very varied. Among the most outstanding were Will Smith and Jessica Chastain who won the awards for best actor and actress in leading roles for their performances in King Richard and The Eyes of Tammy Faye, respectively.

During his award reception, Smith said that the film is based on the story of “a man with the power to make something impossible possible”; alluding to Richard Williams, father of tennis players Venus and Serena Williams, whom he brings to life in the film.

Chastain referred to the film that has earned her this award as a production that has marked her career as an actress and praised her team for “working with so much freedom”

One of the surprises of the night came from the actors and actresses of Squid Game, the most successful original series in the history of Netflix. Lee Jung-jae and Jung Ho-yeon won the best supporting actor and actress categories, respectively. But it doesn’t all stop there as the series also won the SAG for Best Stunt Cast.

On the other hand, CODA took one of the best awards of the night by winning the ‘Best Cast’ category. The actors’ guild wanted to recognize this production, which features a cast of mostly deaf performers and was acquired by Apple last year for $25 million.

Helen Mirren’s career was also recognized with the ‘Life Achievement Award’ which was presented by Kate Winsley and Cate Blanchett who did not hesitate to praise the great work of the actress over the years.
