The White House has always been a prominent place and very prone to make all kinds of movies and series inspired by it. Undoubtedly, its presidents have always been very characteristic and have given a lot of play in the cinematographic world. But, we must not forget its women, the First Ladies. These important women have always aroused interest internationally and, of course, nationally in the United States. Jackie Kennedy is a case in point, as numerous films, series and documentaries have been made about her life.
But, this is not the only First Lady who has achieved worldwide fame and recognition. This can be seen in the next series dedicated to three important First Ladies in the history of the United States. Entitled The First Lady, this series takes us, as special guests, into the personal and political lives of Eleanor Roosevelt, Betty Ford and Michelle Obama. We will get to know their families and the path that led them to Washington, we will dive into their past and we will recognize the great moments lived in the White House and beyond.
The series will premiere in the U.S. in mid-April on the subscription television channel Showtime. However, for it to arrive in Spain we will have to wait until April 28 and watch it on Movistar +. “The stories of three unique and enigmatic women who intertwine in an intimate and organic way, almost as if the walls of the White House could talk“, comment from Movistar+.
Hollywood has put itself at the service of a 10-episode series that does justice to this female figure in American politics. The series is the brainchild of Aaron Cooley and executive produced by Oscar winner Cathy Schulman, who also serves as showrunner. Oscar and Emmy winner Susanne Bier is executive producing and directing the entire first season.
But who will bring the First Ladies to life? As expected, the cast of this series is quite a luxury. Three great actresses have been cast for these incredible stories.
– Viola Davis will play Michelle Obama.
– Michelle Pfeiffer will become Betty Ford.
– Gillian Anderson will be Eleanor Roosevelt.
As for the role of their husbands, the presidents, Kiefer Sutherland will play President Franklin D. Roosevelt, Aaron Eckhart will be President Gerald Ford and OT Fagbenle will become President Barack Obama.
In The First Lady we will see many more actresses, including Dakota Finning as Susan Elizabeth Ford, Regina Taylor as Michelle Robinson Obama, Lily Rabe as Lorena “Hick” Hickok, Jayme Lawson as Michelle Obama as a young woman, Ellen Burstyn as Sara Delano Roosevelt, Judy Greer as Nancy Howe and Jackie Earle Haley as Louis McHenry Howe.
