Tom Holland has updated the progress of ‘Spider-Man 4’, the long-awaited sequel to ‘No Way Home’, which was released in 2021 to critical and public acclaim. The actor, who has been playing Spider-Man since 2016, has confirmed that he is involved in the development of the story.
In an interview with ScreenRant, Holland expressed his enthusiasm to put on the Spider-Man suit again, but he has also set a condition: that the film lives up to the previous one. “If we don’t find a way to compete with the third movie, my Spider-Man will ride off into the sunset,” he has stated. Holland revealed he sat in on a meeting with Marvel executives to plot out where the story could go after No Way Homehit the reset button. “It’s a collaborative process. The first few meetings were about, ‘Why would we do this again?’ And I think we found the reason why,” he said. “I’m really, really happy with where we’re at in terms of the creative.”
“There’s a bit of a stigma about the fourth one in all franchises,” Holland said. “I feel like we hit a home run with our first franchise and there’s a part of me that wants to walk away with my head held high and pass the baton to the next lucky kid that gets to bring this character to life.”
Holland also expressed his desire to further explore Peter Parker’s life as a solo vigilante, after at the end of Without a Way Home no one remembered his secret identity or his relationship with the Avengers. “I love the idea of Peter having to deal with the consequences of his actions and having to face new villains without anyone’s help,” he said.
Spider-Man 4 is one of the most anticipated films for fans of the Spider-Man superhero, after the great critical and public success of the third installment, which grossed more than 1.9 billion dollars worldwide and became the sixth highest-grossing film in history. The film, directed by Jon Watts, surprised viewers with the appearance of former Spider-Man, Tobey Maguire, and Andrew Garfield, as well as other iconic characters from the previous sagas.
The fourth Spider-Man movie still has no release date or official title, but it is known to be in development by Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios and is expected to hit theaters in late 2025 or early 2026. Marvel president Kevin Feige and Sony producer Amy Pascal have assured that they are working on the story and that they do not want fans to suffer from a possible split between the studios, as happened after the release of Spider-Man: Far From Home.
The plot of Spider-Man 4 is also a mystery, but it is expected to continue with the consequences of the ending of No Way Home, where Peter Parker decides to have Doctor Strange erase the memory of everyone who knows him to protect them from his enemies. In addition, there could be a showdown with Venom, as the post-credits scene sees a drop of the symbiote stay in the MCU universe. There is also speculation about the possible appearance of Daredevil or Kingpin, characters who have already debuted in the MCU in the Hawkeye and Hawkeye series.
Spider-Man 4 promises to be a new adventure full of action, humor, and excitement for fans of Marvel’s most beloved character. Tom Holland has proven to be a worthy successor to his predecessors and is looking forward to staying Spider-Man for a long time to come. “I’d be the luckiest kid in the world if I could be Spider-Man all my life,” he said.
