Tomas Boy died this Tuesday in a hospital of the Mexico City. The ex-captain of the Mexican squad and the legend of Tigres died at age 70, when he was transferred urgently to the hospital. The first reports indicated that the Mexican coach was moved to a hospital in the capital of the country.

This amazing player, Boy Espinoza, was born June 20 of 1951 on the Mexico City. He did a great career as a professional player of 18 years on Mexico. Also, he played in some relevant teams like Atletico Español, Atletico Potosino and Tigres, where he become the top scorer of the franchise.

As player on his national team, he defended the shirt of Mexico in 52 matches and he scored 9 goals. He was captain of the national team during the World Cup of 1986. In that tournament Mexico reached the quarterfinals against a good Germany team that eliminated them. Tomas is certainly one of the best players that Mexico has never had. In the best moment of his career, he had some offers from European football (this means more money and more prestige). However, he always rejected them.

Although he debuted in the professional football with the Atletico Español, was in Tigres where he became as a Mexican legend. He helped to his team to win their first two tittles of league and one cup. He was the most striker of Tigres during years (104 goals). However, the French legend Andre-Pierre Gignac surpassed him and he has the record actually.

These are some mentions of the Mexico teams in which he was:

Tomas Boy started as technical director in the 1989-1990 season with the Mexican team Tampico Madero. This was his beginnings out of the pitch. Then, he was always on elite of Mexican first division; some teams he went through: Veracruz, Morelia, Atlas, Monterrey, Cruz Azul, Guadalajara, Puebla, Queretaro and Mazatlan FC. His last tournament as coach was in Clausura 2021. He lost against Pumas in the only final that he achieved (he trained Morelia at the time). Finally, he usually went to some sport programs like “Futbol Picante“. He went to give his opinion and face some controversy in the best way possible.
