It is almost the end of 2022, but it seems Netflix will continue to release more projects before we farewell this year. In this case, Netflix released on December 16, The Recruit, a Spy-adventure Comedy-drama show created by Alexi Hawley. The Recruit had different production locations as Montreal, Quebec, Los Angeles, California, and Vienna, Austria. The show has a total of eight episodes with a 50-58 minute length. Since The Recruit was out on Netflix, it became trending streaming immediately. The audience were asking for more episodes of the show since they were interested in the story.
The series follows Owen Hendricks (Noah Centineo), a CIA lawyer, who has just started working for the organization. Has his life upside down when he encounters an asset who demands exoneration from the agency. Once she tries to expose her long-term relationship with the agency, he becomes entangled in convoluted international politics. As Hendricks negotiates with the asset, he finds himself at odds with menacing individuals and groups, risking his life as he tries to fulfill his duties.
The cast that gave life to The Recruit’s characters is Noah Centineo as Owen Hendricks, Laura Haddock as Max Meladze, a former CIA asset who is actually in prison, Aarti Mann as Violet, Owen’s co-worker who messes with Owen, Colton Dunn as Lester, another co-worker of Owen’s and Violet’s partner in crime, Fivel Stewart as Hannah, Owen’s roommate and ex-girlfriend, Daniel Quincy Annoh as Terence, Owen’s other roommate and friend, Kristian Brunn as Janus Ferber, Owen’s overstressed colleague who reluctantly helps Owen out, and Vondie Curtis-Hall as Walter Nyland, Owen’s boss and the CIA’s general counsel.
As recurring we have, Angel Parker as Dawn, Victor Andrés Telles Turgeon as Talco, Byron Mann as Xender, and Kaylah Zander as Amelia.
The Recruit had favorable reviews, on the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, The Recruit scored 75% (an average rating of 7.5/10), based on 20 critics. Metacritic, have the series a score of 60 out of 100 based on 12 critics’ reviews, indicating “mixed or average reviews”.
It was announced that Netflix acquired an unnamed espionage drama on 2021, with Entertainment One backing the production. The project created by Hawler, has also been executive producer of sereveal popular procedural drama series, such as Castle, The Rookie, and its spin off. Later, Noah Centineo was unveiled as the lead character of the television series. Later that year more castings were revealed, such as Aarti Mann, Danciel Quincy Annoh, Vondie Custis-Hall, Kristian Brunn, Laura Haddock, Colton Dunn and Fivel Stewart all joined the main cast with Centineo.
Principal photography took place in Montreal, Quebec, and Los Angeles, California in 2021, and the filming wrapped in March, 2022.
The series was promoted during Netflix TUDUM Global event (a fan event) in September 2022 on Youtube. Information like its release date and official title, were unveiled at the official website of the event. Plus the first official trailer for the TV show was released on Youtube on November 16, 2022.
