We are in the week 7 of the NFL. The first third of the season is already in the rearview mirror and we have one of the tightest starts, courtesy of the lack of points.
Teams are averaging 21.63 points per game, the fewest since 2009 (21.47), according to data from FiveThiryEight. It’s especially significant because in 2010 they changed the rules to protect defenseless receivers, which brought an aerial explosion, and yet we still see the lowest-scoring start.
It’s been a while since the offense dominates in the NFL. Facts, not opinions, contrary to what many commentators or your fifty-year-old uncle say. It’s no coincidence that two of the best teams are in the Top 3 in points scored (Bills, Eagles). #1 is Kansas City, one of many that is 4-2 and doesn’t have a long line of people waiting to bet against Patty Mahomes. With fewer points, the variability increases and we have the surprises, with the underdogs 52-38-3 against the line so far and the Underdogs cashing over 60% (56-36).
Thus the recipe so that there is only one undefeated, three more have five wins and four have only won one game; the remaining 24 are between 4 and 2 wins.
