Código Emperador comes to the big screen with a great expectation to know this complex film with a great background plot. A suspenseful thriller that shows how powerful information and appearances can be in the social and political reality of 21st century Spain. A dark reality that is often unknown or, more accurately, hidden.
The film was produced by Vaca Films, a production company that already has great successes such as ‘El desorden que dejas’ or ‘Quien a hierro mata’, which reveals how information is controlled and manipulated by the upper echelons of power and espionage.
The film is directed by Jorge Coira, winner of the Goya for Best Editing for ‘El Desconocido’, from a script written by Jorge Guerricaechevarría, winner of the Goya Award for the screenplay of ‘Celda 211’, also produced by Vaca Films. Código Emperador is a film starring three-time Goya winner Luis Tosar, and features a large cast with some of the best-known faces in the Spanish acting world.
Luis Tosar will play Juan and will be accompanied by Alexandra Masangkay, who already appeared in ‘El Hoyo’ and Laura Domínguez, actress of ‘La catedral del mar’. They will be joined by Georgina Amorós and Arón Piper, who became known in ‘Élite’, and Denís Gómez, a theater veteran who has already coincided with Tosar on some occasions.
Alexander Magazine was able to talk to some of the protagonists of the film and learn more about the details of Código Emperador. Georgina Amorós and Arón Piper, who play Marta and Fernando, talked to us about how their characters “are part of and at the same time victims of the system and power in their own way”. “In the end you realize how few people control so much of our society,” said Georgina. While well-known actor Arón Piper commented on how all the issues about power in the film “are there and many times we don’t want to look too much.”
The film is set in the fiction of a recognizable reality of those who pull the strings and control the power in the world. The boundaries between good and evil intermingle to confuse the characters about what is true and what is a hoax. This is a film to make you reflect and learn about the reality of the agents of the espionage services, often covered up and hidden.
Reality is not always what it seems. Juan (Luis Tosar) is an agent who works for the secret services and maintains very close relations with the country’s elites. While working for good, he will have to protect the interests of the upper echelons outside the system, who target the politician Angel Gonzalez (Denis Gomez) to do whatever it takes to bring their dirty laundry to light.
Denis Gómez, who plays the role of the politician Ángel, was also able to talk to us. He told us how interesting he found the “ambiguity of his character” and talked about how this is a film “that has many fascinating things for the audience”, as it has “elements of action, thriller, politics and being aware of the society we live in.”
Undoubtedly, Código Emperador, the new Vaca Films production, has everything it takes to keep you in your seat and has every chance of winning another prestigious Goya award.
