Denis Villeneuve Is Back With Another Sci-Fi Movie Starring Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya
Paul Atreides (Thimothée Chalamet) joins forces with Chani (Zendaya) and the Fremen as he plots revenge against those who destroyed his family. Faced with a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the galaxy, he must do everything in his power to prevent a terrible future that only he can predict.
This second installment adapted from Frank Herbert‘s book series continues the story of Paul Atreides, born in a noble family on the desert planet Arrakis, also known as Dune. It’s a world crucial for its production of spice, a valuable substance with mind-enhancing properties. The young man finds himself in the middle of a political machinations and the first film leaves off with the House of Atreides, Paul‘s family, to face the consequences.
This second opus directed, just like the first one, by Denis Villeneuve has been receiving praise from critics. On the website Rotten Tomatoes, 94% of the reviews are positive.
Box-office-wise, the film’s advanced ticket sales surpassed that of Oppenheimer in the United States and Canada, and it is projected to gross $65–80 million from 4,050 theaters in its opening weekend.
A possible Part Three
This may not be the last installment in the series. Villeneuve has confirmed his interest in making it a trilogy and adapting Herbert‘s second Dune opus, Dune Messiah. Although the script is almost finished, its existence depends on the success of Part Two.
