The Amazon Prime Video adaptation of the popular video game Fallout has given fans a new story set in the wasteland for them to enjoy
Made by the creators of “WestWorld” the new Fallout TV show is the adaptation fans needed for the video game. Video game adaptations have proven to bring a good part of the fans to watch them. However, there have been good and bad adaptations of really popular sagas.
For instance, The Last Of Us on HBO proved to be a great adaptation of the video game, telling the same story but expanding it even further, and making fans learn about the setting more than they already did. That way they told the story for newcomers while still giving fans of the video game something new to look up to. On the other hand, adaptations like Halo on Paramount or the Uncharted movie starring Tom Holland did not please fans as much, so the risk for Fallout was there. Ultimately, viewers consider the Amazon Prime Video show to be one of the good adaptations.
Ella Purnell leads the cast of Fallout as a “vault dweller” like most of the main characters from the video games
The show starts showing its strength in the cast. Ella Purnell (YellowJackets, Arcane…) takes the role the main characters of the franchise usually have, a “vault dweller”. These people are the ones less aware of the world surrounding them, the lived in vaults during the war and go for the first time to the surface. This makes them perfect as main characters as they are the representation of someone discovering the world like we are.
Names such as Walton Goggins complete the cast, playing Cooper Howard, a “ghoul,” one of the mutated survivors of the nuclear fallout. Cooper Howard is a typical character of the Fallout universe and serves as our connection in the narrative from the pre-war world. Together with Aaron Clifton Moten as Maximus one of the members of the “Brotherhood of Steel“.
The adaptation keeps all the elements fans love about the games
From the sound effects to all elements of the setting, the fans are extremely proud of the details of the world. Since the first game to the recent TV show the setting has everything. The similarities are very easily seen when comparing it to the video games.
The vaults with their unique design and technology the supervisor that sometimes ended up being a ruthless ruler, the huge vault door with the number on it and the number on every suit of the vault dwellers with its iconic blue and yellow colors, the S.P.E.C.I.A.L system and the perks, the mutant animals and dogmeat, The knights of the Brotherhood of Steel with their iconic Power-Armor, super mutants, ghouls, both the one who are still humans to the feral ones, utility items like jet or rad-away, Nuka-Cola, robobrains, extreme gore, satire about the manipulation of the government and big companies to keep a good image even in the most extreme situations. Since day one fallout had it all and the TV show keeps it.
The show has probed extremely profitable for Bethesda too
The week following the premiere of the show Fallout 4 became the top-selling game on Steam. People have flooded social media by going back to every single one of the games and commenting on them. Fallout has gained even more popularity than it already had, and the production of a second season of the show has already been confirmed to be in the works.
There is no announcement for any Fallout game coming soon, maybe that could change given the
Microsoft owns both Bethesda, creators of Fallout 3 and Fallout 4, and Obsidian Entertainment, creator of Fallout New Vegas. Obsidian Entertainment was founded by ex-members of Interplay, creators of Fallout 1 and Fallout 2. However, there is no evidence of any Fallout game being in the works right now. Perhaps, the popularity of the show might change that and we could see one of the teams or maybe even both working together to bring another chapter of the franchise to life.
The show has been so greatly received that Bethesda scheduled its “Next-Gen update” for Fallout 4 launching today. The update includes widescreen and ultra-widescreen support, as well as fixes to Creation Kit and a variety of quest updates for PC players. Both for them and console players will receive the “Enclave Remnants” questline bringing The Enclave, mentioned in the show but not in the last entry of the games into the Fallout 4 storyline.
In the new quest, players will have to stop The Enclave from spreading their dangerous ideology and gaining a foothold in the Commonwealth. Furthermore, workshop items and the Enclave Colonel uniform are also included. Together with it, the update brings the following previously released Creation Club content: Enclave Weapon Skins, Enclave Armor Skins, Tesla Cannon, Hellfire Power Armor, X-02 Power Armor and the Heavy Incinerator. Even more content is coming with the update with the “Makeshift Weapons Pack” and the “Halloween Workshop Pack”.
