This Independent Horror Film Was Among The Worst Movies Of 2023
It has been nominated for multiple Razzie Awards and cited many times as the worst film of 2023. It is also number 68 on the Rotten Tomatoes list of the “100 worst films of all time”, with a score of 3%. Despite being hated by critics, this British slasher film created a buzz and grossed a total of $5.2 million. The film went viral, probably because of its gory take on the classic Winnie-The-Pooh characters, who entered the public domain in 2023. Director Rhys Frake-Waterfield is back for a second instalment.
Winnie-The-Pooh: Blood and Honey showed Pooh and Piglet becoming feral and bloodthirsty murderers after Christopher Robin left for college. They terrorize a group of young university women, as well as Christopher Robin himself, when he returns to the Hundred Acre Wood.
Following the events of the first film, Winnie-the-Pooh and Piglet, accompanied by Tigger and Owl, find their home and lives endangered after Christopher Robin reveals their existence. The group decides to embark on a rampage through the town of Ashdown and get their revenge on Christopher once and for all.
The budget for the sequel will be 10 times superior to the one of the original film —which was $100.000— Frake Waterfield told Variety. It is already apparent by the costumes and effects seen in the trailer that this second opus will have no cheap silicone masks; Winnie’s new prosthetics cost over $20.000 compared to the $770 spent on the first film’s costume.
Winnie-The-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 will have a small theatrical release in the United States: from March 26th to 28th.
