The prequel to one of the most famous series in history, Game of Thrones, is a reality almost since the end of the story of Ice and Fire and now we can finally give it a premiere date and a platform: next August 22 on HBO Max.
The struggles between the noble families of Westeros go back much further than many believe, and is that two centuries before the war for the Iron Throne, the ancestors of the Lannyster, the Starks and of course the Targaryen among other families, had virtually the same dispute.
This spin-off is based on George R.R. Martin‘s book Fire and Blood but will be titled House of the Dragon and will feature a full array of new protagonists. It seems that the story will once again revolve around the Iron Throne and its king Viserys Targaryen, who has just acceded to the throne in place of his cousin Rhaenys (current surname Velaryon by marriage) just because he is a man and Rhaenys is a woman.
The theme of female power seems to have a huge weight in this installment and is that as we well know, in Game of Thrones a successful surname is not synonymous with a good king, and by the looks of it, Viserys is going to be nice and decent, but is going to be threatened by none other than the members of his own family.
Something happens in Westeros that will cause a feud to arise between Daemon Targaryen, the king’s younger brother, and Rhaenyra Targaryen, Viserys’ firstborn. The princess will face the same dilemma of her aunt, and that is that she is a woman whom the council will reject as heir without hesitation. But Rhaenyra is going to be a woman of weapons to take, never better said, and is that she has blood of Valyria. In other words, she is a dragon rider.
Her uncle Daemon is also an outstanding rider and warrior who can easily overshadow her thanks to the fact that he has the blood of a true dragon and, of course, to the facilities that life gives him just for being a man.
In any case, House of the Dragon is destined to become a fight of dragons that, as in the main plot, will seek to get the Iron Throne. Will they be luckier than Daenerys?
